John Albiston
Director of Coaching & Resources
John Albiston is a church revitalization practitioner with a pastor’s instincts and a strategist’s toolkit. In senior and executive pastor roles, he led growth turnarounds that took one church from roughly 300 to 600 and another from roughly 300 to 1,500. In the final year of his most recent pastoral assignment, the church recorded over 700 salvations. His work is systems-driven and field-tested: clear pathways for visitors, assimilation and follow-up, volunteer and small-group structures, and leadership rhythms that help growth become sustainable rather than episodic.
From 2017 to 2025, John served as a Church Effectiveness Coach within the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC), helping pastors and boards implement practical strategies that produce measurable results. During that period, the district moved from 18% of churches growing to more than tripling the number of growing churches, and district-wide average Sunday attendance increased from around 15,000 in 2021 to over 30,000 in 2025. John was one of the architects behind the strategy, measurement framework, and day-to-day coaching that drove the turnaround. He has trained 1,000+ pastors and leaders, served as an adjunct professor teaching church growth and vitalization, and helped resource leaders through initiatives such as the National Church Vitalization Summit.
John now serves as Director of Coaching and Resources at Church Vitalization Canada. His mandate is direct: do the hands-on work of turning churches around while training and multiplying a national bench of 80 coaches capable of accelerating transformation at scale. The goal is operational, not theoretical: helping change the trajectory of 8,000 churches by equipping pastors, coaches, and denominational leaders with repeatable systems for growth, disciple-making, and culture change.
